Lockdown didn’t limit moving into our dream new home

Hewitt Family

Moving home can be stressful at the best of times, but when you add the pressures of COVID into the mix, it becomes a whole different story.  NHS Theatre Manager, Louise Hewitt, her husband William and son Ben moved home, just as the full impact of lockdown hit during the pandemic.  Thankfully, with the combined efforts of housebuilders Cruden Homes, their solicitors and the industry body Homes for Scotland, the Hewitt family avoided the potential nightmare situation of being stuck between homes and have settled into their dream new home at Cruden’s Cathkin View development in Castlemilk.

Louise and her family were previously living in a two-bedroomed flat in the area and craved more security and space.

Louise said, “My brother had bought a new three-bedroomed home at Cruden’s Baron’s Vale development at Parkhead so I already knew about the sheer size and quality of Cruden’s properties.

“My son is 12 years old and growing all the time so we wanted to plan for the future, have more security and importantly, some outdoor space to call our own. My husband was born and brought up in Castlemilk and his parents also live here so we wanted to stay local.  I also work at Hairmyers hospital, so the commute from Cathkin View to work is only a short 20-minute drive away.”

“I first saw the showhome at Cruden’s King’s View development in Glasgow’s south side.  I had been emailing the sales team with a raft of lots of questions and was very impressed by the speed of response and helpfulness, before I had even set a foot over the door!  When I saw the showhome, I was blown away by the spaciousness of the rooms and the fantastic value for money that it offered. We had previously viewed a number of new developments but Cruden stood out from the crowd in terms of size and amount of features that came as standard.

“We opted to buy a two-bedroom Redwood house type at Cathkin View and we were so excited to be homeowners in this fantastic new development.  The buying process was really simple and straightforward.

“Then, the day before we were due to get our keys, the full force of COVID took hold and the Registers of Scotland announced it was stopping the proceeding of documents so we had an extremely short window of opportunity to complete the move.   Amid all the stress of treating COVID patients at work, I added in moving house and being interviewed for a promotion at work into the mix.  It was quite a week!

“Fortunately, Cruden pulled out all the stops and the whole team, led by Sales and Marketing Director, Liz Mallon, were outstanding.  I simply don’t know what I would have done without them. The solicitors that Cruden recommended and Homes for Scotland worked around the clock together, with the team at Cruden to make sure everything was in place for our move.

Cruden introduced ‘socially distanced settlements’ to ensure that we could move home safely within Covid-19 guidelines.  This involved bringing in new processes, so rather than walking through our new home with the sales agent, Cruden produced a series of videos explaining how everything worked step by step.  Every little detail was thought of, down to sterilised keys.  To round off the week, I got my promotion at work so it really was cause for celebration!

“We love everything about our new home at Cathkin View and during the lovely weather we have really appreciated having our own front and back garden.  Our son is over the moon by the size of his room and loves the fact that he can fit both a double bed and a sofa in it, giving him plenty of space when friends come over.

“Even though Cathkin View is a new development, there is already a real sense of community and it has a great family-friendly feel.  We even have a Whatsapp group with all of our neighbours, who are such friendly and helpful people.

“My family are so delighted and proud of us for making this move and think our new home is stunning.  So much so that my sister in law and her family are looking to relocate from Southampton and they already have appointment to view a home at another Cruden development, Laburnum Lea in Uddingston.  If she buys it, it really will be a family affair of Cruden properties! After giving us the gold service throughout the whole process, I can’t recommend Cruden highly enough.”
