Cruden keep ahead of the market and the Beast from the East

Construction output continued its recent decline with its biggest month-on-year fall in five years; the latest figures from the ONS (Office of National Statistics) have shown.

Output continued its recent three-month on three-month decline, falling by 0.8% in February. This was driven predominantly by a continued decline in repair and maintenance work, which fell by 2.6% in the same month; construction output also declined by 1.6% month-on-month, stemming from a 9.4% decrease in new infrastructure work.

The ongoing challenging market conditions faced by the UK Construction industry continued in the latest report from the Office of National Statistics.

The report revealed that Construction output has continued its recent decline in the three-month on three-month series in January 2018, contracting for the ninth consecutive period, falling by 1%.

The fall was mainly driven by the drop in commercial work, which fell 4.1% in January. Despite the fall in Quarter 4 2017, total new orders increased by 4.3% in 2017, reaching the highest total since 2008, at £55,130 million.
