Buying a first home can be a big decision. For those searching for the perfect property, it’s important to choose a house style and location which will provide flexibility and cater to the whole family’s needs for years to come. Damilola and Abimbola Adeniran took an exciting step earlier this year when they moved out of their rented property in Portobello, Edinburgh, into a spacious three-bed semi-detached home at Cruden Homes’ Birchwood Brae development in East Lothian.

Having always lived in Edinburgh, the couple had their heart set on staying near the city. However, with a baby girl on the way, they needed to find the right home to support their growing family.

When they discovered Cruden Homes all-new and exciting Birchwood Brae development, Damilola felt it perfectly supported their aspirations to live in a happy, family-oriented community within easy reach of the city. She said:

“At the time we were looking, we were expecting our baby and needed more space and a family friendly environment. We loved the overall feel of Birchwood Brae and the wider area. It felt safe for children which was important to us. We saw children playing happily in the area when we visited and that really attracted us.”

Having never purchased a property before, Damilola and Abimbola explored different locations and house options. Keen to make their next home their own, and with the opportunity to tailor their kitchen and bathrooms, they opted to buy new and purchased one of Cruden Homes’ energy-efficient properties.

“We wanted to buy a home that would give us options. Buying new meant we could be involved in the design of our home and tailor it to suit our own style. We were able to choose our kitchen and bathrooms which made it really exciting.” said Damilola.

They also felt their home was great value for money, which allowed them to buy the high quality home they wanted without having to stray away from their agreed budget. Damilola continued:

“Birchwood Brae seemed like a lovely yet affordable option. It was important to us that we kept within budget and the other houses we looked at were far more expensive than we had planned. We were surprised by how spacious yet affordable our home at Birchwood Brae was. It meant that we could secure our desired price point without having to compromise on quality or size.

“We were also extremely pleased to have our flooring and turfing included in the purchase of our new home. Cruden Homes provided and fitted the flooring free of charge as part of their sales offer, which meant from the moment we received our keys we could start to enjoy life in our new house. We haven’t done much to the property since moving in, but already it feels like home.”

Sharing what they are enjoying most about their new home, Damilola explained that as a sociable family, generous living spaces and an open-plan design have made a huge difference to day-to-day life:

“I love the kitchen and living room and use these areas the most. We have friends and family over quite often, so the open-plan style works really well. We also love having our own garden to enjoy.”

Entering their home buying journey as first time buyers, Damilola and Abimbola weren’t sure what to expect. However, now making the most of life in their new home following the arrival of their baby girl in June, they feel the buying experience was everything they could have asked for.

“Our experience has been nothing but positive. The Cruden team was very professional, friendly and they answered all our questions. We wanted to see the property a few times because we were excited to see the progress, and they let us visit.

“It felt reassuring having them there to hold our hand throughout the buying process and beyond. Their customer service has been outstanding and I would definitely recommend them to anyone considering buying a Cruden home in future.” said Damilola.
