Leading housebuilder Cruden Homes recently visited pupils at St Paul’s RC Primary School in East Calder to talk to children about the house building industry and the big role that it plays within communities across Scotland.
Sales Manager, Louise Bastiani and Senior Contracts Manager, Willie Kavanagh, attended the school to present to primary one pupils, showcasing what it is like to work in Scotland’s thriving construction sector.
Pupils at St Paul’s RC Primary School learnt about the variety of roles that contribute to the building of new homes, highlighting the array of career paths available in the sector, and gained awareness of site safety. Importantly, they were educated on some of the dangers around building sites, emphasising that they are not safe places to play.
At the end of the session, the children were given the exciting opportunity to try on Cruden’s PPE equipment and get a small taste of life in the construction industry.
The visit forms part of the developer's commitment to enhance the communities in which it builds. Cruden is delivering over 120 new high quality homes at its all-new Wellwater Grove development in the local area, comprising a modern mix of private and affordable properties.
Amy Rodford, teacher at St Paul’s RC Primary School, said: “It was fantastic to see our primary one pupils eager to learn about Cruden and the work they are carrying out. Even in their early years, we want to help our pupils gain a better understanding of the different sectors that play such a big role in their day-to-day lives.
“Louise and Willie did a great job interacting with the children, answering their questions and highlighting the importance of keeping safe around construction sites.”

It’s important to educate local communities on the benefits of housebuilding, but also to encourage young people to keep safe and act responsibly around building sites.
“The pupils thoroughly enjoyed themselves and seemed to take a lot on board. I hope to see some of them embarking on a career in the industry in future and have no doubt they’ll all go very far!”
