Happy Buyer at Vision

Chris Candlish Happy Buyer at Vision

28-year-old Chris Candlish made the move from Peterhead to Edinburgh in July last year to start a new job as a physics teacher at Leith Academy.

“It was all a bit of a rush to be honest as I had the interview and got the job on the same day so I had to quickly find somewhere to live!” said Chris.

“I viewed a flat and also went to visit some new housing estates and really loved the Cruden house.  The Help to Buy scheme was also a no-brainer and made the decision really easy so I made by reservation and paid the small deposit.”

“I decided to rent a room in a flat until my move in date in May of this year and I have to say, now I really love having my own space.  In the flat, I spent most of my time living, eating and marking papers in my room as it was the only private space where it was quiet. So although I was working, it still felt like I was living in student accommodation.”

“Now I absolutely love that I have my own house and having an upstairs feels really grown-up.  It’s good too to have distinct living and sleeping areas. I feel like I have so much space now, including my very own garden. I also love that my car is parked right outside on my own driveway so no more lifting heavy shopping or work bags upstairs in a close.”

“I went for the two-bedroom Maxwell style house and I love the great big glass door and windows so it is lovely and light. And I can walk straight out into my own private garden which was great in summer.”

“My favourite room in the house is the living room as it’s the first time I’ve ever owned my own sofa.  I know that sounds silly but I enjoyed shopping for it and had a bit of a splurge.”

Chris’s new home is in the outskirts of Edinburgh in the Craigmillar area.  Asked why he chose to live out of the city centre, Chris explains: “There’s a lot of regeneration going on in the area and I think it has a lot of potential – just look at what’s happened in Leith. The draw of being able to buy my own home, larger than I could have afforded elsewhere, combined with great connections to the city made the decision easy for me.  My commute can be as short as 12 minutes and 20 at most on heavy traffic days.  There’s also a sense of community here, and with the new library and community hub with café coming soon, that will only improve.  There’s plenty of shops in the area too, and if you want more choice, Fort Kinnaird is close by.

“I would tell anyone considering moving here to come out and have a wander around.  And the Cruden team are really helpful.  I had never bought a home before so I didn’t know what to expect.  Ann kept me informed every step of the way, and popped by after I moved in to check everything was ok and that I had settled in.  She even she gives me tips on how to keep my lawn.”

“I love my new home and I’m enjoying having my own space.”

Vision is Cruden Homes’ third new homes development in Craigmillar and enjoys stunning views of the city and Arthur’s Seat.
