Commonwealth Games, Athletes Village, Glasgow

Project Overview

Cruden were appointed by City Legacy to redevelop an area of derelict wasteland in the East End of Glasgow, through the construction of over 400 newbuild, mixed tenure dwellings. The
initial purpose was to create a village which provided accommodation for the 6,500 athletes and officials attending the 2014 Commonwealth Games. On completion of the Games the dwellings were retro-fitted and made available for social landlords, private-sale and mid-market rent.

The Housing comprises a 50/50 mix of private and social tenures. Although the site is split into 4 character zones, each of which has a different look and feel, (differentiated by factors such as street forms, building materials etc.) the design standard and aesthetics of both private and social housing remains the same, making tenure indistinguishable throughout the village.

Wide scale Employment & Training Initiatives were generated together with numerous sustainable Community Benefits.
