Work has begun to build 60 new council homes in Craigmillar, Edinburgh and to mark the milestone, an official ceremony [pictured above] was arranged on Wednesday 1st of May at the development site.

The £6 million Greendykes C project is part of the City of Edinburgh Council’s ambitious 21st Century Homes for Edinburgh programme which aims to build up to 1,400 homes to rent or buy within the city.

The Greendykes C development includes the first local authority homes to be built in Craigmillar for a generation and comprises a mix of modern houses and flats designed to be energy efficient and affordable to heat, 46 properties will be marketed for rent and 14 will be allocated for social housing.

Housing Leader, Councillor Cammy Day, who attended the ground breaking event said “This is a fantastic project forming an important part of Craigmillar’s regeneration. It is vital that we tackle Edinburgh’s shortage of affordable homes and projects like this are an important step in this direction. We are committed to working with our partner organisations to deliver more developments like Greendykes, which will not only provide much needed homes but also create jobs and boost the local economy.”

Robert Kerr, Business Development Director at Hart replied by saying “Hart Builders is delighted to be working with The City of Edinburgh Council and their partners to provide these highly sustainable, energy efficient homes. The site at Greendykes C will continue the regeneration of Craigmillar and enhance its reputation as a desirable area in which to live."
