Eriboll Street, Glasgow

Project Overview

This development, which was shortlisted in the Homes for Scotland 2017 Awards, was designed to create a strong modern identity which stands in contrast to the traditional Architecture of the local area. The design uses a pallet of materials which emphasises the mature trees within and surrounding the site and contains a mix of houses and flats to meet a range of household sizes and user groups including older people and wheelchair users together with a Care Home. Individual blocks are tied together through the use of distinctive materials and repetition of design features. The topography and orientation meant that location for the low rise housing would be appropriate towards the south of the site, along Eriboll Street, whilst the taller flatted blocks would suit the higher building lines on Balmore Road. The angular composition of flatted blocks ensures they sit comfortably within niches on the site, rather than imposing, bulky rectilinear forms. Likewise, the housing terraces involve roof profiles at alternating angles, with cut out portions, creating outdoor terrace areas and stepped elevation lines.

All houses are designed to meet silver standard and incorporate a number of energy efficient features including sun spaces, solar panels and recycling facilities.
